Thinking Outside of the Box
This is a very common expression – but what does it mean?
Thinking outside the box is useful because it leads you to break the rules, and to take a risk (and that is often how people get new ideas). It also means that you can learn through trial and error, making mistakes, not getting it right first time. The post-it note came about because an inventor of glue couldn't get a formula to be sticky enough.
Here is another exercise that will stretch your creative muscles. In two minutes see how many uses you can come up with for an everyday object. For example, start with a brick.
