Friday update!

Another very busy week here in the Ignite! office! Here is a brief run down of what we are excited about this week!

Irchester’s Lab_13 ‘Walking with Scientists’ event – 10th February 2012

The Management Team at Irchester’s Lab_13 are opening their doors to wow visitors with the incredible investigations taking place in Lab_13. The students have been busy designing posters, contacting businesses and guests to invite them to the showcase and tour of the Lab.

If you would like to visit the Lab_13 at Irchester Community Primary School please contact amy@ignitefutures.org.uk for further information.

The Engine@Derby Silk Mill

Our conversations with the lovely people at Derby Silk Mill continue to excite us, with all manner of innovative activities in the planning stages. We are hoping to programme a summer school at the Mill based around practical STEM activities, develop a shared Lab_13, and plan an all-nighter event to take place within the Mill itself! Lots of creative ideas flowing, and we can’t wait to see some of them take shape. More to be updated as it happens.

Gillespie Primary School launches Lab_13 with celebrity guests!

Tuesday evening saw an incredible turnout from the parents and community members of Gillespie Primary School. The new Lab_13 was launched with the help of Dr Simon Singh and Blue Peter’s Steve Mould, who entertained the audience with demonstrations of the enigma code breaking machine and whizzy physics and chemistry. Audience members were then treated to instant ice cream, thanks to three chemistry students from UCL and a large bucket of liquid nitrogen!

The Big Bang Fair

Look out for Ignite! at this year’s Big Bang Fair! Our stand will be in the STEM Clubs area on Saturday 17th March, and we are very fortunate to be accompanied by some of our fantastic Lab_13 students! They might even grab you to find out your burning science question to add to their Investigation Board! Come by the stand, say hello, and share your science with us!

Lab_13 at Elizabeth Woodville School

Students at EWS have been working on their Crest Award entries, from diets, to hand washes to dance! The students have also been dissecting frogs, mice and eyes. To see what else has been happening across our Lab_13 family check out the blog.

Wishing everyone a great weekend, and looking forward to what next week might hold!
