Ignite! Projects:

Report of the FriendShip Project

Introduction

Throughout the 2005 campaign to bring the Olympic Games to London in 2012 was an emphasis on the cultural value and legacy of such an international enterprise and notably the input and impact that young people can make.

A key aspect of the 2012 Olympic bid centred on the FriendShip project – an initiative that takes the metaphor of cultural cargo and the trade in ideas for greater global understanding as its holding form.

Ignite! developed a time limited project that made explicit a natural synergy with the ideals of the FriendShip project.  That is to say, Ignite! is about the creativity and innovation of young people, and the fresh approach that exceptionally creative young people can bring to addressing challenges and opportunities of a local and global significance.

By developing models for the identification and support of creative young people we have also revealed the underlying concepts of creative thinking that can draw together young people and link them across boundaries.  In this way we have been able to raise interest in Ignite! from a number of overseas institutions.
