Ignite! Projects:
Report of the FriendShip Project

The Key Lessons From the Project
• As a prototype for the ‘advanced team’ principle, the FriendShip project illustrates the value of bringing different perspectives to bear on an issue or problem. The sum is greater than the parts.
• The central question needs careful articulation, and a clear sense of what level or scale is expected of participants as they address it.
• Time is of the essence – a balance is essential between analysis of a problem, and the creative thinking to resolve it.
• Never underestimate participants’ capacity to remain focussed and engaged on a single issue for a sustained period.
• Input from facilitators and workshop leaders provides essential stimulus, both in analysis and solution.
• The focus of output (in this instance an installation/exhibition) is a great motivator.
• The model can be replicated in other contexts and for other issues.
