Derby and Derbyshire Schools 09
Scroll down to see what happened in the schools of Derbyshire!
The Bolsover School
The Long Eaton School
The Long Eaton School focussed their activities around 4 main areas;
Diet/Exercise, which involved a krypton factor style obstacle course,
Light – models of the eye were built, and optical illusions investigated,
Resources – where resources come from in the form of a storyboard and
Evolution – looking at the origins of life through role play!
Lisa Davison, scientist and Steffie Richards, creative practitioner were involved with the various activities, along with 5 primary schools; Shardlow, Sawley, St Lawrence, Brooklands and Dovedale.
Tupton Hall School
Tupton Hall were joined by Frazer Johnston (science bit!), and Steve Pool (creative bit!) for their Come Alive with Science week. Over 140 pupils were involved from Tupton Hall, Tupton Primary and Holmgate Primary School over 6 days. 2 of these 6 days were spent delivering the theme – Forces – in the primary schools. Another two days were spent with years 7-10 solving science challenges, and finally two days were spent with less able students either developing ideas for the primary school visits, or solving their own science challenge – how to cope being marooned on a desert island with very little in the way of resources!
Murray Park
Digestion and Nutrition were the themes of the day for Murray Park. Two primary schools, Ravensdale and Silverhill, were invited in to either a morning or afternoon session, and along with 60 of the students from Murray Park, they investigated the topics through crazy digestion games, poster making and some interesting looking experiments with food! Scientist Su Parker and Laura Zobel, creative practitioner joined the school for their Come Alive with Science activities.
