About Lab 13

Lab 13 is a space where young people can explore and their curiosity can be let loose. Based in a school, but entirely managed by young people, and with an inventor, engineer or scientist in residence, the idea of Lab 13 is based on the world famous Room 13 art studio in Fort William, Scotland.

LAB 13 will encourage young people to take responsibility for a space and they will have control over all the decisions associated with that space; building confidence and a wide range of skills. The emphasis on the space is to sustain young people’s innate curiosity and enthusiasm for creativity through experimentation and invention.

Over the next three years Ignition* will provide support to set up six Lab 13s across the region; after that what happens is up to the ingenuity of the management team.

How can you get involved?

The first Lab 13s have been identified in Nottingham, and we are now inviting expressions of interest from schools in Derbyshire, Leicestershire (and Rutland), Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire.

Information will be in schools in 2009 or contact the Ignition* office for further details.
