Kitchen 13?
A space where young people can develop their ideas about food technology is the dream of the students at Manning School in Aspley, Nottingham. The recent application to host the first Lab 13 so impressed the panel of experts visiting local schools that they expressed their wish to support the idea....
The girls leading the project proposal had a clear vision of what they wanted to achieve, having identified a space in the grounds of the school where they could grow food crops, including varieties that reflected the wide cultural diversity of the school. They want to research the nutrition and health benefits of food grown close to home and have a plan for a lab where vegetable can go under the microscope.
The Kitchen 13 plan could explore all aspects of healthy eating and nutrition from germination to consumption. Who knows, the Manning students might even attract the interest of Jamie Oliver!
