Announcement of Funny Maths Winners
It is with great pleasure that we announce the winners of our Funny Maths and Graphs Competition...
Have a look at the winning entries, ‘Mr T' and ‘Etch-A-Sketch' in our gallery: http://www.ignitefutures.org.uk/ignition/galleries/funny-maths/2/ and http://www.ignitefutures.org.uk/ignition/galleries/funny-maths/3/.
All entries were judged by Jem Stansfield, Engineer Extraordinaire and Mathematical Genius from the BBC series, Bang Goes the Theory (http://www.bbc.co.uk/bang).
Jem said, ‘It was a very tricky choice of two. But the winner was a runaway best of breed - the Mr T/Etch-a-Sketch combo. It just instantly made me laugh even after seeing loads of other pie charts and graphs. It was a great competition to judge even for a guy who's been out of maths comedy since writing ‘hedgehog' upside down on a calculator in 1987.'
Highly commended by Jem was also Karma Chameleon: http://www.ignitefutures.org.uk/ignition/galleries/funny-maths/14/
Prizes courtesy of Grand Illusions (http://www.grand-illusions.com - Wine Klein, Transitive Dice, Sicherman Dice and a Polyorama) and a quart of sweets (from a nice proper local sweet shop!) will be making their way to the winners.
The winners will also be working with Camouflaged Learning to develop some mathematical games and puzzles to inspire young people to think more creatively about maths - and how fun maths really is!
