STEM Fluency Labs - a different approach . . .

As we come to the end of the four great years of Ignition* programmes, we say farewell to our only teacher focussed strand, the STEM Fluency Labs. The labs were a huge success, changing not only the approach teachers have to their classroom experience, but changing the outlook of many participants in general. Each of our Labs lasted 5 days, 4 nights, and incorporated creative activities (film making, raft building, and group singing to name but a few!) and problem solving sessions related to issues raised by participants, in relation to the teaching and school barriers. Based at venues around Rutland Water, the Labs allowed participants the space to reflect, and feel detached from their normal pressures and stresses, and approach their own individual teaching issues with a clear head, and time to really investigate what was possible within the classroom. We have had such great experiences on the Labs, with fantastic participants, practitioners and Lab staff, and would really love to say a huge thank you to everyone who took the risk, came along to our STEM Fluency Lab, and left feeling inspired! Although as part of the Ignition* programme, STEM Fluency Labs are no more, we are still keen to continue the Labs as a way of developing creative approaches.
