St Bedes Catholic Science College
Joined by Scientist Peter Crowther, and the Rhubarb Theatre Company, St Bedes staged two performances, based around ecological problems. The process, from start to end was filmed, to enable film distribution to the students.
Two Primary Schools were involved, Tower Road Primary and St Mary’s Catholic Primary, and combined with the students from St Bedes, the number of students involved reached close to 360! As St Bedes is an eco-school, it seemed only natural that they choose an eco theme for Come Alive with Science!
Gleed Boys School
Gleed Boys School chose a science adventure theme for their Come Alive with Science activities, and based their adventures around retrieving King John's Jewels! Following a film made by year 10 students, pupils were given clues, and props, to aid their search for the jewels. Various school departments got involved, from English, to Media Studies and Music. The school were even visited by an educational officer from the Wisbech and Fenland Museum’, who provided medieval artefacts and activities.
Primary schools Spalding Parish and Pinchbeck East were involved, and the students were joined by Philip Dunn, a scientist, and Susan Paez, a creative practitioner, to offer the students some guidance and sources for inspiration! Following the event, schools were given follow-up extension materials on the medieval period, and students who excelled during the Come Alive with Science activities were given prizes.
